This leather skirt has been in my life for over a decade. Bought in my 20's from French Connection its continued to be a re-worked item. It was worn running around London, at the BBC desk, out for drinks and even clubs sometimes worn with killer yellow heels and a strappy top.
Unlike suede (which is the no1 in-fabric now) for a woman a leather skirt has practical characteristics! I've always told my clients the leather skirt is my perfect dinner party item when I'm hosting. Its wipe down!! no stains and easy cleared up spillages! So in my 30's when I had young babies and seemed to do endless dinner parties - the leather came out!
Leather never fails to date but back in Autumn 2011 the leather skirt hit the runways again and its remained a key trend. Back then I recall doing a style event at Wells WI where I shocked 80 well heeled, matured ladies to wear leather ! The mood was excitement and many came running up to me afterwards saying 'I'm going to DIG mine out'. I taught them to team their leather number with a classic white shirt or woollen jumper and suddenly it would look like an on-trend classic rather barmaid chic.
This season my leather is going for a grown up minimal look. A sporty touch is added with my white pumps and white sweatshirt. Sport Luxe for the leather. Quite practical for the school run and super for cool for work. Get me.
For a similar look as mine - try Whistles - you could work a pair of leather culottes but perhaps that's a step far..
