This season we have a trouser change. Its massive and I think the biggest one in years. The culotte. If you thought about wearing flares last season but didn't I guarantee you will consider a culotte. Firstly, if you work in an office you can wear them. They are tailored, smart and with a good pair of court shoes they will work in the boardroom. If you're young and funky, there are sporty ones, drawstring style that look streetwise with trainers and bikers. If you are like me and live in the country, this look is perfect as you can work in the morning wearing heels or smart boots and then team with wellies on route to school with the dogs.
At a height of 5ft 2 its taken a while to find my perfect pair. Black were boring. Denim to thick and long and looked like really long ankle length flares (yuk). Others in awful materials that just were too tight in the wrong places. These Brick coloured pair from Zara did it for me. A good thick material that hung well and didn't look cheap. They are a little longer than on the website model but I like the width of them as they hit my calve so I won't be changing the length. At first they felt big, but of course they would - I've been wearing the tightest skinny jeans for years.
I've so many ideas for these trousers. They will work so well in my wardrobe and make my tunic dresses come alive as I wear them on top to create a 'short dress on top of short trouser' proportion. They are perfect trouser for this time of year when its warmer and you still want to reveal your summer tan. The pictures shows me wearing them to an event with a vintage style blouse from Oasis (two seasons old) leopard print courts (Zara) and vintage jacket. I can't wait to dress them down with a denim shirt and knee brown boots, floppy hat but also work a minimal look with a polo neck and tights when the weather is colder.
