my instant vintage hit

Sometimes I like to keep secrets about little boutiques. Mainly for my own pleasure of walking into them each season and having first dibs of what they've got on store for little me (well come on, I do have to think about myself sometimes!). But over the years I've taken numerous clients of all ages to this little secret store 'Instant Vintage' on George Street in Bath. All ages all styles have a loved it.

The ambience starts outside the shop. The bench sits with buckets of silk flowers proudly in front of the elegant window displays (currently pretty mannequins dressed around a blossom tree). Inside you feel at home with the distressed wooden floors, a vintage antique style, weathered furniture adorned in pretty silver pots, candles and an abundance of gorgeous jewellery, scarves and gift cards. There is an instant HIT that makes you want to buy something! for you or for someone, for anyone! Everything looks so gorgeous and shiny.

Brilliantly the prices are incredible. The clothes feel unique yet we are not being ripped off. We can buy 3 or 4 items, create a whole look or part of a new capsule wardrobe for a good budget.

Poppy (the owner) is all about creating a feminine, soft, vintage and eclectic mix of clothes. There are high fashion pieces but equally her best seller basics arrive each season in a new on-trend colour collection and are bought regularly by those in the know.

As a Stylist, I visit Instant Vintage to see what she's picked for her big sellers each season. The silk floral sweatshirt last year was a winner for myself and many who saw it and bought it too. Not only does it feel unique, its beautiful to look at and really easy to wear too. I also purchased a long flowing oversized cardicoat one year and am still wearing each autumn, it was so affordable but I still feel expensive in it.

So what am I picking this season? I've edited my 4 favourite what I'm wearing pieces.

1. Something pretty.

This beautiful lace dress is all about the bohemian trend that is huge this season. I’m a big fan of anything pretty, floaty, a little bit prairie, soft and girly.

Shape wise its very loose so I have nipped in with an obi belt. But it would look beautiful just hanging comfortably on its own to give a floatier look. I love the cropped sleeves and the wide neckline. It also has a lovely cut out piece on the back.

It comes in a blush cream, a hint of rose to the dress (but there is also a cream version too). The fabric is fairly heavy cotton lace that sits over a very fitted slip

I’ve styled it with some ankle-tasseled boots but I will also wear cow boots with it too. In the warmer months, a pair of tonal sandals in brown or bronze would look lovely, with a denim jacket thrown on top.

This dress would work informally on holiday with flats, at smart summer evening party with heels or a daytime wedding or christening.  It’s a beautiful piece.

2. Something for the Summer rain...

A bright lightweight floral raincoat is perfect for spring and summer showers. I love this print, so many gorgeous flowers so is perfect to sit over lots of summer t-shirts.

I’ve styled the coat in a sporty way with Instant Vintages pleather/jersey leggings, a pop of yellow underneath and white pumps.

The shape is lovely. It nips in at the waist, has a removable hood and lovely ties on the arms.

I’ll be throwing this raincoat in all my holiday bags this summer, for camping trips, UK beach days and festivals.

3. Something Khaki...

Army green khaki is huge this season and buying a khaki piece will instantly update for your wardrobe. This soft silk style blouse is perfect.

The colour ticks the military trend but the pussy bow blouse makes it feminine too. It’s got a flattering V front and you can wear the tie as a bow or just one knot.

I’ve styled it with my long cream pleated skirt and snake skin boots for a smart look but I’m going to put this with smart grey jeans, ripped blue jeans – its going to be my ‘go to’ blouse this month.

4. Some new denim...

I’m a big fan of blue denim and a bigger fan of the dungaree trend so these were coming home! For me, these dungarees will be worn and worn.

Days at home with the children, out walking, but also as styled a bit more grown up with the khaki blouse and heeled vintage cowboy boots.

I love the ties at the top too and of course the ripped in the knees are very now.

They are a slim fit so are very flattering on the hips, legs and bottom but they have a looser top. I just love them!
