stride out in stripes

I'm looking in my wardrobe right now and its trousers that I feel really need a new lease of life. I talked last week about upgrading my denim by adding some textural embroidered statement pieces but this week I've a desire for some 'go faster stripe' jogger style trousers either in a jersey or a tapered wool.

Not meaning to harp on about my age again, but I do recall owning a tailored pair of black trousers in my teens with a white stripe going down the side..and we are talking about 25 years ago. I haven't seen a pair since and its hit the same need with me now.

Frankly I don't own a pair of black trousers. I don't have a corporate lifestyle and I'm not a black trousers type (years of wearing them as a waitress in my teens put me off) and black trousers, for me are a bit of a dull purchase.

But, this simple stripe gets me all excited about wearing black trousers again (not to mention jogging bottoms too!)

They look sporty and have a bit of of ski-wear vibe which I'm loving at the moment and they certainly will be a lot easier to wear than a pair of ski - pants (yes really, ski pants are back).

So can a pair of black trousers with a stripe really look cool and be worn for in a variety of ways. YES!

Seen here at Stella McCartney - 3 ways to wear; weekend with camel coat and white trainers. 1. Versatile  2. quite laid back cool (thanks Stella).

..Top to toe sport stripe for a full on sport luxe look..(only for the brave could do I believe) but could prove a hit on sports day..or thrown on for the school run.

This look below,  makes great use of your old white shirt and biker jacket (my favourite pic!) - this is city cool but could be worn hanging out in the country (with a different handbag of course).

Chloe are  adding stripes to their joggers. Who would think this elastic-waist jogger could look so glam? Worked here with skinnier stripes in white, yellow, orange and red. Shown with flat sandals and a t-shirt for daytime but also a silk top for an evening look.

I mean seriously, this look could take you from the Rugby pitch on a Sunday morning (with puffer jacket thrown over) to Sunday lunch out with friends. Heels would work brilliantly too out for supper with friends.

Zara have really gone for the striped trousers. These have a knitted feel to them and have a great flare at the bottom for the taller lady.

Top to toe stripe jersey look by Zara. Add some pointed kitten heel ankle boots to smarten up the look. Love this.

This 'new basic' ruffle jumper looks minimal but is an interesting way to wear a jumper and trousers. Who would have thought wool ruffles and stripes would work? And for those of you who do have a corporate life...work these into your wardrobe this season. By Haider Ackermann  -  an expensive way to work the trend.

Take these gorgeous wider stripe tailored to the boardroom and work with a blazer. You'd certainly get your voice heard in a business meeting. Add heels after 6pm..

Whistles do a similar pair in navy. Add a white shirt and pinstripe blazer and you've a whole new corporate look.

And dress them down for the commute with white trainers or even work at the weekend...

Zara have introduced some wide, two stripes of red trousers. Very military (very Mulberry AW16) and look strong with a blue and white striped shirt and pointed flats.

These were my particular favourites in Zara as they are gathered in at the ankle so give a smart jogger style but in a smarter tailored fabric (so tick both trend boxes for me)

As seen on me with a white blazer and heels. They are ordered,  I can't wait to wear them with my leather biker boots, cashmere hoodie and grey crombie coat at the weekend and smart for my personal shops and business networking lunches.

And if you really want to extend the stripes to skirts - check out this from Maje..... convinced yet?
