Decorative tailoring

Ok so I found myself a bargain the other day in local boutique. A floral printed trouser suit. Clearly no one in my village was going to buy it so I snapped it up!  A decorative trouser suit is a wonderfully wacky tailored piece that you can wear for an evening out, stylishly smart at work or creatively casual at the weekend.. and your going to see more and more on the high street next year.

Tailoring has taken a turn the season. Trouser suits are not just investments for the boardroom. Like the jumpsuit, the evening trouser suit is modern way to work your cocktails. Velvet suits are plush and popular this season,  but unlike floral, velvet tends to only work in one season. Floral print is more wearable all year round... so a better (and more beautiful) purchase to take you into 2018.

But would you dare to wear a printed floral suit? Maybe not 9-5 (unless you work in the creative industry) but definitely 5-9 and separate the two pieces and you're in for lots wardrobe possibilities.

Here's some inspiration and of course some little pics of how I'll be wearing mine.

For the evening

Erdem Resort 2018 was inspired by paintings of Hannah Hock. They have these crop flare trousers but also do a slimline stretch cotton pair too that could cross over for the daytime. Just keep the top half simple and slinky.

Ted Baker this season have produced this collarless evening suit in fabulous rich colours. Wear the jacket for cocktails and remove when the music gets turned up!

Now in the sale..

For Work

For those of you who work in a creative industry,  attempt the whole suit for work (I will!) Just add a white shirt your work bag and your off. I'd replace the shoes for flat grey loafers.

Hobbs have produced this suit (now in the sale!) which is very similar to the one I've bought. I love the simple turtle neck underneath giving a minimal style underneath. Worn with simple mid heel court shoes would work in the office if you dare.

Dolce Gabbana also styled their floral suits this season with white crisp shirts and flats. They even added a waistcoat. A fabulous theatrical look.

For Spring..

Looking ahead to lighter warmer days, you can wear a floral suit in the Springtime. Love this shot from pintrest. Just add flat sandals and your off.

This Ted Baker suit can work for NYE, but the colours lend themselves to springtime wearing too.

For the sporty cool

Remember that these suits will always work with trainers and simple t-shirts for a street style.

For the men

And I couldn't resist sharing Harry's love for floral suits! I can get my husband into floral shirts but I'm not sure he would go this far...but we be inspired by Harry's black accessories for a strong way to wear the florals.

So here are my version..My suit is by label Smashed Lemon. I loved the black background its easy to style in the winter, but the lighter colours of pink, bronze, grey and pale blue will lend itself for light accessories in the spring. Here are my 3 ways to wear with my own wardrobe.

Top to toe print with Zara heels and earrings, bronze body (New Look last year). I'll be wearing this to my NYE drinks party.

A great smart casual outfit for the office, daytime occasion. Zara boots, Kettlewell Colours silky roll neck in deep claret (which is so perfect with my boots and so very soft to wear).

Take the trousers shopping - edge up with TopShop buckle boots, ASOS top (last season) and pink velvet skinny scarf (a gift)
