I’m 44, 5ft 2 and I don't particularly like my legs. So why oh why did I order a Shorts Suit?
1 - It’s different (I love different)
2 - I have a lot of clients with fabulous legs
3 - I love blazers and co-ordinated pieces
I have to be honest, it wasn’t because I felt I needed one - just curiosity and research to road test a trend
I have to admit, I am a feminist and the idea of working women styling out a Shorts Suit in the summer excites me (like the boiler suit and dungarees).
I’m all for comfort and all for smart - this I found does both
Which one did I order?
I ordered a few from Mango. This pinstripe one was my favourite. Probably as its a bit bonkers.
I’m wearing a medium.
At first the blazer felt too big but worn with the shorts the overall composition felt right.
The shorts felt loose, almost a bit big but the size down would be too tight.
I honestly felt OK. I was rushing to take the pictures whilst the sun was out and my teenage daughters returned from school.
I was expecting a shriek of horrific comments but their response was ‘I love that mum!!’
“really?” I said.
I teamed min with a blue Zara shirt, suede shoe boots and a suede belt.
For a weekend style, I’d team with a t-shirt and flat sling bags or pumps.
If you want to be taken seriously at the work
Choose a look that is loose and oversized
Choose a summer linen or lightweight fabric
Styling wise: stick to wearing a shirt under your blazer - no low cut or tight fitting tops!
Only wear sensible mid heels (no stilettos)
A block low heel slingback would be the perfect for a ‘I’m in control of this look’
Be in control of it. There is NO way a man could be taken seriously wearing one of these to the office, but a women could - so embrace it this fabulous trend.
How fabulous does she look?
I just love these warm colours teamed with flat sandals and a simple t-shirt or shirt.
Team with brown mid heel sandals in the summer evening.
Wear the 2 pieces separately for daytime sightseeing
I ordered this animal print light weight one also from Mango.
I’m wearing a size 10 skirt which felt nice and roomy and thankfully longer style on me than the model.
The skirt had pockets so lovely to wear.
A great suit to wear on the plane with your white daps
Team with espadrille wedges in the evening
Try a bold print
Advantages of the Short Suit.
You won’t over heat in the summer
You can tan your legs in your lunch break (!)
Wearing shorts: you can sit without crossing your legs
Wearing a skirt: if the prints suitable, you can work with tights in the autumn.
Styles are not just for work - they are perfect holiday co-ord combinations and look fab for drinks after work.
Who could wear a Shorts Suit?
Teacher - a really comfortable, washable smart suit worn with flat brogues or low heels..much more practical than a mini skirt.
Doctor - if the suit was a loose smart suit, I think it would be a great work combination and more comfortable than a summer knee length dress.
City Types - go for a navy, grey or a pastel - if you are petite , go for a straighter leg suit. If you are brave go for lemon.
Creatives - go for a bold print - check, tarten, primary brights or tweed.
After 6pm - put on your slinky strappy heels for evening cocktails..
There are lots of fabulous colours to buy on the high street.
Shorter, more fitted styles which would be fab for city hipsters.
A short skirt suit would be a fabulous holiday co-ord.
I teamed mine with metallic pump and belt and orange Zara t-shirt
This suit has a very casual feel about it, so would work in my lifestyle and comfortable for consultations and shopping days with clients.
I feel smart and as it becomes warmer it would be cool to work in.
I also ordered this checked print. A fabulous print with a mix of pinks, greens and navy. The blazer would look amazing with khaki, pink or denim trousers. The skirt however was TINY. Size medium and I could just get it over my bottom! So sadly I couldn’t take a photo of it.
I love the blazer but I just wish they had produced shorts rather than a skirt.
Love the styling with a vintage high need blouse.
This TOPSHOP one is a great print that would work brilliantly with tights in the autumn teamed with a polo neck.
