FUN WITH A PEPLUM

Ok before you think this is a odd top from the 2000’s please hear me out. Stylists are raving about how the structural ‘in out’ top is BACK. And after finding this cute number in Anthropologie I have since found lots on the high street for you to try. They don’t all have to be as big as my peplum (!) - you can have a slight frill one or a longer waistcoat style that sits over your hips or maybe a denim one ..

I had some fun with mine as I’ve since only styled it with my burgundy leather trousers - it is now far too warm for those so I thought I’d try some spring styles.

Styling Tiips.

This look is about drama so if your peplum is on the large size its best to balance out with wider trousers and bold statement shoes.

Avoid styling it with skinny trousers or jeans (too 2000) or a pencil skirt (no!) the whole idea is to create loose architectural shapes with your outfit.

Don’t panic about the jacket! I thought I’d have to only style it with a peplum jacket but a cropped wider jacket thrown over the top works and its fun just seeing the peplum peak out the bottom.

Belt -I prefer the drama of a belt but if not I think a bold statement necklace works brilliantly too.

Accessories - go as large as your peplum for a good balance.

Look 1 - Denim Peplum

Crop straight jeans are perfect to allow the peplum to have a 2026 moment and these jeans are fitted on the hips (no pleats on waist) but not skinny. I added old zebra heels to balance out the print and topped with a vintage scarf and HUGE earrings. I have also styled this look with leopard ballet pumps and a suede jacket for a more casual day style.

Look 2 - Sport Peplum!

Ok so I tried cargo balloon trousers and they didn’t quite work so I found these sporty tracksuit style trousers from Darcey’s bedroom!! …I LOVED THIS look of full on sporty red. I added my old striped LK Bennet heels and a Zara blazer - this blazer worked as there is a bit of drama on the shoulders and it was short enough to reveal the peplum at the back. I found a matching handbag and a fabric necklace. Shades went big! Could I style this with trainers? possibly but they would have to be very chunky ones.

Look 3 - Colourful Peplum!

OOOH this was my favourite as it involves lots of colour. The trousers are from Sea Salt and are the most fabulous trousers to style and wear (found for a client whilst shopping and bought them after!!) I promise more info on these next week. Added my red clogs (these could be green pointed courts or a ballet mum) and mums old belt and my vintage jacket.. Green was the theme so had fun sourcing some large green earrings from Portman London (Bath) and glasses were also Sea Salt.

And sadly this top is no longer as it was in the sale but I have been a lovely Stylist and sourced you some more I like on the high street…
