I’M BORED OF JEANS!

Casual comfortable trousers you could try…

Move over party wear, I’m feeling practical and want to talk casual comfortable trousers (that are not denim!).

Often clients comment on the variety of looks I produce day to day. The truth is, I wear most of my clothes on repeat and if you’ve followed me for years, you will recognise that I re wear pieces year after year. My secret to looking different each day is by mixing up my garments and buying different styles each season to maintain a creative, fresh and modern style.

Like every fabulous cook, one needs a variety of ingredients (styles) so whenever I buy, I buy something new in style, shape, texture and colour.

The result ? Lots of variety that can be mixed up.

When I conduct a wardrobe edit with a client, a popular problem is repeat buying. You find a pair of jeans that fits, so you buy that style again and again. After time, all you are left with is one kind of style.

Jeans + top, Jeans + hoodie, Jeans + posh top.

Sound familiar?

The result; you are in a jeans style rut - same old same old denim.

‘What’s the answer Natasha?’

You need casual comfortable trousers alternative that are not jeans to give you a polished casual style.

Here are some casual trousers you can buy that are not jeans (and ones I have to have in my wardrobe!)

CORDS

In winter, cords replace chinos. Chinos are cooler cotton so a corduroy feels warmer to wear and a little bit richer in texture. If you are worried about bulk go for a soft, needlecord with a bit of stretch. If you want volume, go for a looser style with an elasticated waist.

Consider colours: The fabulous thing about corduroy is there are an abundance of colours to buy. This allows you to team your cords to all your knitwear, blouse and t-shirts. All you have to do is work out the most popular colour in your tops.

Avoid black, be brave and choose rich colours like burgundy, teal, mustard, pink. The result? You’ll produce a polished casual without working too hard.

Cords get theatrical with an old evening blouse and tweed.

LEATHER OR FAUX LEATHER

I am a fan of faux leather and find it so much easier to wear (and wash) than leather. Leather trousers add edge to a very simple outfit combination, be it a hoodie and faux leather joggers, cashmere knitwear + leather or even a simple white t-shirt and trainers. So if you like black and you like a minimal style, choose leather (or faux).

Decide what style of trouser style suits you. If you prefer a classic style, go for a slim fit tapered, with a zip at the side. If you like a sporty style, try a leather jogger (I’ve had mine in my life for years). If you’ve a fabulous pair of legs and like to wear dresses over leggings, opt for a leather style leggings.

Leather joggers can be mixed with classic pieces too!

I love my pleather leggings!

THE MODERN JOGGER

Only this week, I pulled on my modern joggers (4 years old) and had compliments. Unlike ‘joggers’ modern joggers are tailored like a fabulous pair of trousers, but allow you to style casually with trainers, knits, blouses. Don’t worry if you are petite, style them high on the waist to elongate the legs and choose a thicker soled trainer. Keep then colours simple and tonal with the stripe at the side of the jogger.

Modern joggers also work with a biker style boot.
