30 mins with 1 item

I have to be honest; I started the year feeling divorced from my clothes. Yes, it is true, Stylists also fall out of love with their wardrobes. My Christmas Capsule was still up (mostly unworn as many celebrations cancelled) and honestly I felt bored of my clothes - in a way I’ve never felt before.

I’ve kept and reworn clothes for decades, but there was something about moving into 2022 and wanting to start fresh.

I then contracted covid and had time at home. Time to focus on me, my clothes, my style. Determined to feel the love again.

I challenged myself to put together a rail of clothes I was in the ‘mood’ to wear. I didn’t want fussy styles or anything complicated.

I spent 30 mins in my wardrobe a day and only focused on 1 garment. The mission was to create a variety of looks from that one garment with other clothes in my wardrobe.

The results were amazing. Not only did I realise how versatile and wearable the unworn garments were, I had a wonderful time playing and creating with my own wardrobe.

The feeling of creating outfits from your own wardrobe is euphoric.

The realisation that you ‘have' clothes and ‘can’ make outfits’.

I should know this. It is at the core of my business and why I started it years 12 years ago!

By day one I was dancing in my wardrobe.

Here is what I came up with.

1. A fitted mesh dress from Mint Velvet.

This dress is fitted so I was always worried about it looking too tight. I also didn’t feel warm enough in it. Layering was the answer.

Dress worn with a yellow M&S knit and old black blazer

Dress layered with Zara blue shirt & M&S tank

Dress layered with arty sweatshirt and Zara blazer

2. A bubblegum pre loved pink suit

The trousers were always to long to wear with casual shoes. I just need to shorten the trouser legs and dress it down.

Tones of khaki give the suit a utility edge.

Arty Sweatshirt & high tops add a sporty style.

Rich purple knit, chunky brogues & print coat.

The ‘too’ posh to wear orange skirt

I didn’t reach for the skirt as I was afraid I’d spoil the silky fabric. Dressed down it felt fabulous to wear.
