BRILLIANT BASE LAYERS

Brilliant basics I regularly recommend to clients. These may not be the most exciting purchases you make but these are the heroes that glue your looks together. I’ll be totally honest, I used to be dreadful at investing in a basic but over a decade of styling I’ve learnt how important they are to nailing a look.

What I love about all of these are the way they feel against your skin and the importance they play in pulling a good outfit together. I’ve also added some top accessories too as they are so essential to outfit building.

The ribbed polo.

Gloriously soft layering piece. Style under a classic plaid dress . Avoid black base layers. Pick a top that pulls out your best colour in the print.

Comes in 8 colours.

The sparkle crew knit.

Amazingly fine, subtle sparkle and cosy. Finer than a jumper but more glamorous than a cotton base layer. Style under a this seasons silver blazer.

Comes in 10 colours.

The merino turtle neck.

I love these! Soft, light and warm to wear. Style under your dungarees, your favourite silky dress or with this seasons wide trousers for a total colour.

Comes in 15 colours.

The silky roll neck.

A righter fit in jersey so good to fit under bulkier dresses or denim. I have so many of these and clients love it!

Comes in 34 colours.

The merino tights

This season I’m in to coloured tights. I love Falke tights for quality and colour tones. Pair with an old vintage mini skirt or liven up a city suit.

Comes in 10 colours.

The sparkle sock.

If you’ve shopped with me. You know these are essential to style with your seasonal trainers, brogues. It is the sock you don’t mind showing off!!

The printed scarf.

Dig deep, I know you’ve got some silky scarves in that drawer! Perfect to add a pop of print around your face and to bring block colours when styled together.

Mango have lots of fabulous prints in great colours to co-ordinate your looks.

The classic leather belt.

Game changer piece. Don’t just settle for black, brown or metallic. Colourful belts polish a tonal casual style.

Comes in 16 colours

The sparkle thermal.

Yes please. Layer under everything if you feel the cold. For now style under knitted waistcoats or vests.

The cashmere crew.

M&S cashmere crews are great quality and wash well. Extremely warm and a neat style to play under your spring jackets to keep you warm in winter.

Comes in 12 colours

The Fairisle sock

For a cosy casual look avoid the hideous socks sold in most department stores. Go for a Fairisle to style with your jeans and boots.

Lace sleeve top

Me & Em do the best layering tops. I love this lace black one. You can style under a sleeveless knit to add some sheer glam to your arms. Also style with a sleeveless dress if you don’t love baring your arms.

Shirt layering top

For those of your who like the shirt over jumper look but don’t like the bulk. This has a jersey body and cotton cuffs and tail.

Lace frill vest.

Another amazing piece by Me & Em. Style under a dress for a creative

frill around the neckline. Also looks amazing under a crew jumper.
