MAXIMUM STYLE FOR A MINIMALIST

This week I had a Personal Shop with The girl who simplified, Tanya Slater, home and life mentor ; professional de-clutterer, coaching women to clear space in their homes to give clarity in their lives.

Through years of simplifying her own home and life, Tanya is content with a modest capsule wardrobe of 10 pieces. She requested no more, but recognised her capsule required an update.

To have less, takes time. Every piece you buy requires concentrated consideration. The decision making is amplified when you are minimalist (added to Tanya's recent ADHD diagnosis she admitted she had fears about shopping and making decisions).

I love tuning into a clients life, style and developing it. For Tanya, my goal was to give her maximum impact with minimal pieces both in style and function.

Every choice we made had to be the right choice.

Every piece we chose had to weave well with the other pieces.

More importantly, Tanya needed to understand the value of each piece and how she could style it a variety of ways.

How it went:

Tanya and I had a 1.1. zoom call to review her current capsule. I could see that although her capsule was functional it lacked colour and personality that she radiates.

A single mum of two boys, she needs ‘practical’ but with her business booming and her work client facing, she requires a working wardrobe that matches her brand.

Simple, minimal, elevated, casual, comfortable, sophisticated, peaceful, calm, soft

..the words I wrote down to describe what I wanted to achieve from her new capsule.

I also wanted more colour.

Hues of feminine tones to sit against new neutrals.

Tonal blue & belts.

Laughing 3 hours into the shop.

"Thank you so much Natasha for our shopping experience this week. I am the queen of clearing things out, including my clothes but useless at shopping and choosing outfits that make me feel fabulous. You taught me so much in the few hours we spent in Bath and have completely changed my outlook on clothes shopping and my wardrobe. I came home with some beautfiul clothes I can wear in many different ways and I am already wearing them with confidence daily. I can see this being a long-term relationship for sure!"

Tanya Slater, Mentor

Tanya’s current capsule pre shop.

Tanya fears prior to the shop:

  • Tanya finds it hard to make decisions when she’s out shopping.

  • She gets confused about whether she likes or needs a garment.

  • She doesn’t trust her own judgement therefore often fails to make a purchase.

  • She doesn’t like shopping with anyone else! (ooh that’s my first challenge!)

Tanya’s goals for the shop:

  • To ‘up the ante’on her current capsule wardrobe.

  • To have a carefully curated rail of elegant clothes that are comfortable to wear for work.

  • Tanya chooses texture over anything, so it has to ‘feel’ good to wear.

‘I see you in soft pink Tanya’ She was baffled ‘I’ve never worn pink!’

In a mornings Personal Shop Tanya learnt:

  • It was possible to find the perfect pair of jeans and to feel smart in them.

  • How fabulous she looked in soft pink.

  • The importance of choosing silky blouses to layer under soft knitwear.

  • How to wear top to toe tonal pale blue.

  • How khaki was her new neutral (rather than just grey)

  • How glam she felt in coated khaki slim fit jeans.

  • How to wear wide length high waist trousers and still feel casual.

  • The importance of a belt.

  • New brands and styles she never would have chosen herself.

‘I think this is the start of a long lasting relationship’ said Tanya one hour into the shop.

Tanya saw the value of a professional guiding her, teaching her and helping her make decisions that she would find so hard to do.

The results? amazing. Tanya has breathed life into her capsule, she’s got warmth in colour, she’s required a grown up elegance with ease.
